5 AI Tools That Saved Me Hours This Week

Let’s be honest.

The AI world moves so quickly that if you blink for a week, you’ve probably missed three new “revolutionary” tools, five YouTube tutorials and at least one person insisting that this is the end of Google.

Most of it is noise.

Some of it is genuinely useful.

I’ve spent enough time experimenting (and occasionally suffering) with AI tools to know that flashy launches don’t always translate into real productivity. A tool can have the fanciest demo on the internet and still be utterly useless when you’re trying to meet a deadline.

These are the five AI tools I found myself opening again and again this week. Not because they’re perfect, but because they actually helped me get things done.

And yes, one of them still tests my patience daily.

1. ChatGPT — The One I Open Without Thinking

At this point, opening ChatGPT has become muscle memory.

Need an article outline? ChatGPT.

Need to untangle a sentence that somehow made perfect sense five minutes ago? ChatGPT.

Need someone—or something—to tell you that your “brilliant” idea might need a little work? Unfortunately… ChatGPT.

I don’t use it to write for me. If I did, this article would probably contain the phrase “In today’s fast-paced digital landscape…” somewhere, and I refuse to be associated with that level of disappointment.

Instead, I use it the same way I’d use a notebook that’s oddly good at talking back.

It helps me organise scattered thoughts, challenge ideas, rewrite awkward paragraphs and occasionally point out the painfully obvious thing I’ve somehow managed to overlook.

Is it always right?

Absolutely not.

Every now and then it becomes wildly overconfident, confidently explaining something I never asked for. That’s usually when I close the tab, make a cup of tea and start again.

But despite the occasional dramatic misunderstanding, it’s still the one AI tool I find myself returning to every single day.

Not because it’s perfect.

Because it saves me from staring at a blinking cursor wondering where on earth to begin.

What I use it for: Brainstorming, editing, planning, and asking the sort of questions I’d rather not type into Google.

2. Google Flow — The One That Makes My Ideas Look Better Than They Did in My Head

I’ve realised that having an idea is the easy part.

Getting it out of your head and into a video without it looking like a Year 8 PowerPoint presentation? That’s where things get interesting.

Lately, Google Flow has become my favourite place to experiment.

Some prompts land perfectly on the first try.

Others make me question whether we’ve both read the same brief.

It’s unpredictable, but that’s oddly part of the fun.

What I like most is that it lets me test ideas quickly. Instead of spending hours creating something only to realise it doesn’t work, I can experiment, tweak a few prompts and try again. It turns the whole creative process into something that feels less intimidating.

That said, it isn’t a miracle worker.

If your prompt is vague, don’t expect the AI to magically fill in the blanks. It’ll certainly try… and sometimes the results are unintentionally hilarious.

I’ve learnt that the more specific I am, the better the outcome. Apparently, AI appreciates clear communication just as much as humans do.

For anyone making faceless videos or visual storytelling content, it’s easily become one of the most useful tools in my workflow.

What I use it for: Storyboarding, scene generation, creative experiments and turning half-formed ideas into videos worth finishing.

3. Claude — The One That Doesn’t Rush the Conversation

If ChatGPT is the friend who throws ideas at the wall to see what sticks, Claude is the one who quietly says, “Let’s think this through first.”

I don’t open Claude as often, but when I do, it’s usually because I need something with a little more depth.

Long articles.

Messy notes.

Ideas that somehow made sense in my head but looked like absolute nonsense once they reached the screen.

Claude has a way of slowing things down. It doesn’t feel desperate to impress, and I quite like that. Sometimes the best answer isn’t the fastest one—it’s the one that actually understands what you’re trying to say.

Of course, it’s not perfect.

Every now and then it plays things a little too safe, and I find myself wishing it’d take a few more creative risks instead of politely colouring inside the lines.

Still, when I need clarity over cleverness, it’s usually the tab I end up opening.

And considering the number of tabs I already have open, that’s saying something.

What I use it for: CODES, organising ideas, perfect webpages, and making sense of my own chaotic notes.

4. ElevenLabs — Because Not Every Day Is a “Recording” Day

I genuinely thought recording voice-overs would be the easy part.

Turns out, my neighbours have a remarkable talent for choosing the exact moment I press record to renovate something.

After the fifth retake, I gave up pretending I was a voice actor.

That’s where ElevenLabs quietly became part of my workflow.

I write the script, choose a voice, make a few tweaks, and within minutes I’ve got narration that’s good enough to keep the project moving. More importantly, it lets me focus on telling the story instead of worrying whether I pronounced a word oddly or inhaled too loudly halfway through a sentence.

No, it doesn’t replace a real human voice.

And honestly, I don’t think it should.

But for YouTube Shorts, faceless videos, quick explainers or those days when I simply can’t be bothered to record myself for the fifteenth time, it’s incredibly useful.

It’s one of those tools you don’t think much about until you stop using it.

Then suddenly everything takes twice as long.

What I use it for: Voice-overs for videos, reels, explainers and saving myself from endless retakes.

5. Gemini — We Have a Love-Hate Relationship, and It Knows It

Gemini is probably the easiest AI tool to describe.

It frustrates me.

And yet, I keep going back.

There are days when it gives me exactly what I was looking for—clear, creative and surprisingly thoughtful. Then there are days when I read the response and wonder if we’ve accidentally joined two completely different conversations.

It’s inconsistent.

Not bad.

Just… unpredictable.

I’ve learnt that Gemini works best when I stop expecting perfection and start treating it like another perspective. Sometimes it’ll suggest an angle that never crossed my mind, and that’s usually enough to make me stick around.

Would I trust it with every project?

Probably not.

Would I ignore it completely?

Also no.

Every AI tool has its own personality, and Gemini’s happens to be the slightly rebellious one. Occasionally brilliant, occasionally confusing, but interesting enough that I still find myself opening it when I’m stuck.

Maybe that’s the real lesson here.

No single AI tool is going to do everything well. The trick isn’t finding the perfect one—it’s knowing which one to reach for, and when.

What I use it for: Pictures, second opinions, quick research, and those moments when I want a completely different take on an idea.

Final Thoughts

If you’d asked me a year ago whether AI would become part of my everyday routine, I’d probably have laughed… and then spent three hours doing everything manually.

Now?

I still don’t think AI is here to replace creativity. If anything, it’s made me appreciate it more. The ideas still have to come from somewhere. AI just helps me spend less time wrestling with the boring bits and more time actually creating.

That said, don’t fall into the trap of downloading every new tool that trends on social media. I’ve done it. It’s exciting for about ten minutes, and then you realise you’ve somehow collected twenty AI apps that all claim to do the same thing.

Find the few that genuinely fit your workflow and stick with them.

For me, that’s ChatGPT, Google Flow, Claude, ElevenLabs and—despite our ongoing differences—Gemini.

They won’t magically make you more productive overnight.

But they might just save you enough time to make another coffee… or finally start that project you’ve been putting off.

And honestly, that’s a pretty good deal.

Have you tried any of these? Or is there an AI tool you swear by that I’ve completely overlooked? I’d love to hear your recommendations—I have a terrible habit of trying new tools, and I’m always looking for the next one worth keeping.
